Here’s a little sketch where my mom is holding her granddaughter for the first time.

Hannah was born this night, 1 September 2010 at 2.20am and is the daughter of my sister Marijke Op De Beéck and brother in law Ruben Goosens.

To give sculpting with super sculpey a try I sculpted this little creature. I didn’t start from a plan, just started working on it to get comfortable to the sculpey medium. I’m not happy with the end result, but for a first try I guess it’s still ok…

Since the super sculpey is quite soft I built a armature for it first and mounted that on a wooden plank. Still working on it was quite annoying because it kept twisting and half collapsing as I was trying to built it. To prevent this I aplied a first “layer” of sculpey around the armature and baked that. That gave me a strong base to work on. Then I added further details of the creature and baked it again.

Here’s my Johnny Cash painting.
45 by 65 cm or 17.72 by 25.59 Inch oil on stretched linen.
The colors are a bit warmer on the original, I’ll try to take a better picture soon and replace it.

At a specific time, about 6pm my cat always sits at the same place in our garden enjoying the subtle sunlight that is peeking trough the threes. That scene of great lightning always strikes me. I just had to paint it. I did this one rather quick, more an impression of the light an colors than actually going in to details. I finished this in about 45 minutes.

I’ve decided to make these little paintings in my sketchbook on a daily basis, all summer long. I’ll share the ones that I want to share one here. In this way you can see how, where I live , what surrounds me and what occupies me. And in this way I can train myself a little everyday by making these 30-40 minutes paint sketches.
